Can Snoring Lead To Divorce?

Does your partner’s snoring annoy you so bad that you feel like slapping him or even divorcing him? If so, you’re not alone. Some sources say that snoring is one of the top causes of divorce, although there are no real statistics to back this up. However, studies do show that when one person in a couple snores, the risk of divorce increases.

The causes of snoring are mostly medical in nature and include allergies, obesity, and large tonsils or adenoids. Sleep apnea is another common cause. This is a condition that causes you to stop breathing while you sleep.

What Can Be Done?

There are literally hundreds of snoring remedies available on the market, but finding one that actually works is not an easy task. The best thing you can do is change your sleep position. Instead of sleeping on your back, try switching to your side.

You should also avoid alcohol before bedtime, as it can further relax the muscles and make snoring more likely to occur. Snoring is often caused by obesity, so losing weight can help decrease pressure on your windpipe, allowing more air to pass through so that you’re not making noise. Nasal dilator strips can also be helpful in opening nasal airways.

If your snoring occurs every night, this is a serious problem. You may want to discuss your options with a doctor. A CPAP machine or mouthguard could help. For severe cases, surgery or  a sleep study can help with the issue.
